The square and rectangular pits are shallower than the circular ones and have drains on all sides. At the centre is a stone hearth. Like the circular pits these also had a timber superstructure as evidenced by the presence of post-holes. In addition there was a central post to carry the weight of the roof. The corner posts were the broadest and were planted deep into the earth. Some of the pits have also been found partitioned.
