Ash mounds [14.3] are an integral part of the Neolithic of Karnataka and range in time from the Neolithic to the Iron Age. Their origin and purpose are still enigmatic. The other is that they are mere dumps of accumulated cattle dung and refuse of the Neolithic folk which were periodically burnt.
