The site at T. KALLUPATTI, about 12 km s.-w. of Tirumangalam in Dt Madurai, has also yielded in recent years a Neolithic habitation with ashy layers characterizing the deposit, now under fast depredation by the local people for manure. The tools here are made of basalt and are of large-to-small size, in good finish. A characteristic of the celts of Salem is that they are better ground and polished than even the Deccan neoliths [4.6.7-9], especially considering their fabrication on the coarse and hard rock-types.
