Kerala had so far shown no traces of any typical Neolithic culture, either stratigraphically preceding the profusely occurring Megalithic tombs [4.17.10] or in association with typical Neolithic pottery or of microliths which are sometimes found in the Ponnani valley. But sporadic occurrence of pointed-butted polished celts, similar to those of BRAHMAGIRI or the sites in Salem or N. Arcot, has been reported either from Megalithic underground rock-cut tombs in the lateritic areas or out of context in the Periyar river beds.
