v1.c9.s7.5

Unlike Dales, who starts his phases with the early Stone Ages, Fairservis, 1967, pp. 1-48, dealing with the same region, begins his stages with what may be called Neolithic with limited cultivation (stage I), passing through developed cultivation and pastoralism and beginnings of regionalization (stage II); fully developed sedentary village life with regionalization but interregional contact (stage III) including a movement into the Indus valley; the period of urbanization (stage IV), mainly comprising the mature Harappa cities; and finally, economic decline and abandonment of the Indo-Iranian borderlands (stage V, which Dales includes within his phase F, as a late phase thereof).
