Excavation has revealed a deposit which is basically of sandy silt composition, only the upper two layers being generally clear. The top 1 m layer is dark-brown in colour, while the lower 1 m layer is of light-brown colour that merges with the still lower deposits that are full of *kankar* or lime nodules. Most of the finds are encrusted with lime deposits. However chemical analysis through soil testing with acid indicates a buried-soild horizon at a depth varying between 86 cm to 1·27 m representing a climatically wet phase during the first occupation.
