Jābāla, ‘descendant of Jabāla,’ is the metronymic of Mahāśāla¹ and Satyakāma.² Jābāla is also mentioned as a teacher in the Jaiminīya Upaniṣad Brāhmaṇa,³ which refers to the Jābālas⁴ as well. The Jābāla Gṛhapatis are spoken of in the Kauṣītaki Brāhmaṇa.⁵
