v1.c3.s18.112

⁹ Cf. Rv. iii. 6, 15; viii. 1, 5; 2, 41; 21, 18; 34, 15; 46, 22; Av. viii. 2, 21; 8, 7; x. 8, 24; Pañcaviṃśa Brāhmaṇa, xix. 13, 6; xxi. 18, 3, etc. Zimmer, Altindisches Leben, 348, considers that it has not any definite sense in the Rigveda; this cannot be either proved or disproved. The Rv. has the phrase śatā sahasrāṇi several times (iv. 32, 18; viii. 32, 18, etc.) = 100,000; and ayuta may easily have been already specialized, though it may also have retained a vague sense.
