v1.c3.s4.29

Uttara Madra is the name of a tribe mentioned with the Uttara Kurus in the Aitareya Brāhmaṇa¹ as living beyond the Himālaya. Zimmer² points out that in the Vamśa Brāhmaṇa³ Kāmboja Aupamanyava is a pupil of Madragāra, and thence infers that Kambojas and Madras were not far distant in space. This conclusion is perfectly reasonable in view of the probable position of the Kāmbojas.⁴
