⁸ J. i. 57 f.; MA. i. 466 f.; the incident is alluded to in the Mahā Saccaka Sutta (M. i. 246); the corresponding incident recounted in Mtu. (ii. 45 f.) takes place in a park, and the details differ completely. The Lal. has two versions, one in prose and one in verse and both resemble the Mtu.; but in these the Buddha is represented as being much older. The Divy (391) and the Tibetan versions (e.g., Rockhill, p. 22) put the incident very much later in the Buddha's life. Other incidents are given in Lal. and Mtu.
