⁵⁹ According to the Commentaries (e.g., DA. ii. 549), after the rainy season spent at Beluva, the Buddha goes back to Jetavana, where he is visited by Sāriputta, who is preparing for his own parinibbāna at Nālakagāma. From Jetavana the Buddha went to Rājagaha, where Mahāmoggallāna died. Thence he proceeded to Ukkācelā, where he spoke in praise of the two chief disciples. From Ukkācelā he proceeded to Vesāli and thence to Bhaṇḍagāma. Rāhula, too, predeceased the Buddha (DA. ii. 549).
