According to the Mahāvaṃsa Ṭīkā it was in Ambaṭṭhakola that King Mahācūḷi Mahātissa worked in Soṇṇagiri in a sugar mill to earn money for an alms-giving⁴ (*v.l.* Ambaṭṭhakolalena).
