¹¹ J. v. 335-6; it was in this connection that the *Cūḷahamsa Jātaka* was preached to show that Ānanda had, in previous births also, renounced his life to save that of the Buddha; see also DhA. i. 119. The Cullavagga account of the Nāḷagiri incident makes no mention of Ānanda’s past (Vin. ii. 195).
