abhinava (EI 5; IA 18), name of a tax; cf. abhinava-mārgaṇaka-prabhṛti-sarv-ādāyair=upetaḥ, epithet of the gift village. It may also mean ‘new’ and the reference may be to the new mārgaṇaka tax. See abhinava-mārgaṇaka.
