argala (IA 19), a check; used in certain dates and translated as ‘checked by’; cf. dvy-argala-catvāriṁśat-samadhika-vatsara-sahasra, ‘one thousand years, increased by forty [which have run into and are] checked by two’, i.e. the year 1042.
