² Gr. ERE, vol. VI, p. 329. ‘He appears to have been the Brāhmanical opponent of the free-thinking reformers of mediæval India, headed by Rāmānanda, Kabīr and others who flourished in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.’ Temp., vol. I, pp. 127 ff. This opinion is based upon the view that Gorakhnāth was a contemporary of Kabīr. But Gorakhnāth belongs to an earlier time. See chap. eleven.
