A tradition traces the Bāmārg sect (the ‘Left-Hand’ sect) to Kānipā.⁴ It is of interest at this point to note that the development of erotic elements in Śakti worship was in Bengal and Assam. The list of names given by Sen⁵ is: Mīnanāth, Gorakhnāth, Hādīpā, Kalupā. Hādīpā was the teacher of the mother of Gopicand. Jālandharipā is also known as Hādi or Hādipā. This list belongs to eastern Bengal. Another name apparently belonging to this cycle is Kālepā (Kāripā, or exactly Kānipā).
