In explaining a verse from the Skanda-purāṇa, which extols the devotees of Viṣṇu as the best of the best (Sarvottamottama) irrespective of their caste, the author enumerates eleven classes of Śūdras and twelve qualities of Brahmans, and maintains the comparative superiority of the consecutively higher castes! Of the different stages of life, he explains Saṃnyāsa as the renunciation of all acts, whether obligatory, occasional or optional (Nitya-naimittika-kāmya-karmādi-nyāsa).
