³ He appears to be identical with the Madhusūdana Vācaspati who wrote an *Advaita-maṅgala* (Oppert, *Lists*, no. 3422), an *Aśauca-saṃkṣepa* (Mitra, *Notices*, ii, no. 987) and a *Madhumatī* commentary on the *Mugdha-bodha* (Eggeling, *India Office Catalogue*, nos. 1078, 1164). He appears to have been a Bengali, and the colophon to the *Aśauca-saṃkṣepa* calls him a Mahāmahopādhyāya. In Haraprasad Sastri's *Notices*, ii, nos. 93, 201, 225, three Smṛti works, entitled respectively *Durgārcā-kāla-niṣkarṣa*, *Vrata-kāla-niṣkarṣa* and *Śrāddha-kāla-nirūpaṇa* are ascribed to him. He could not have been the famous Madhusūdana Sarasvati, author of the *Advaita-siddhi*; see B. Majumdar, *op. cit.*, p. 150-151.
