² In *Gaura-gaṇoddeśa-dīpikā* (śl. 10-11) a classification of the stages or hierarchy of Bhakta-rūpa (Caitanya), Bhakta-svarūpa (Nityānanda), Bhaktāvatāra (Advaita), Bhakta (Śrīvāsa and others) and Bhakta-śakti (Gadādhara) is elaborated ; but this appears to be a further scholastic development of fine distinctions. It is difficult to say if Sanātana wanted to imply any such distinction between Bhakta-rūpa and Bhaktāvatāra, for he appears to use the terms indiscriminately.
