The Knowledge of the Âtman does not effect emancipation, it is emancipation.—If we seek for the origin of this thought that runs through the whole of the Upanishad literature, we are referred back to the discourses of Yâjñavalkhya that are presented in Bṛih. 3 and 4.¹
