Plato, Phaedrus, p. 247, C: ἐπὶ τῷ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ νώτῳ, and paro divo jyotir dîpyate viṣvataḥ priṣṭheshu (Chând. 3, 13, 7, translated above p. 169) seem to point to the idea of a sphere or hemisphere.
