The earliest Chinese translation of the Daśabhūmikasūtra was made by Dharmarakṣa in the third century A.C. proving the existence of the Sūtra itself in the second century. Two centuries may well be allowed for the evolution of these conceptions of the Sambhogakāya and the Bhūmis, and the expansions of the Prajñāpāramitās. We may therefore hold that the Aṣṭa. or the Daśa. was in existence towards the end of the first century B.C.
