v1.c8.s3.21
(D) The Takki Ekaccasassatikas: These, constituting the fourth class, were the logicians who arrive at the conclusion that the soul (= citta = mano = viññāṇa) is permanent, unchangeable, steadfast, and so forth, while the body is not so. This naturally reminds us of the Maitrī Upaniṣad (II. 3-4) where the soul is described as pure (śuddha), tranquil (śānta), eternal (śāśvata), great by itself (sve mahimni), and making the body living (anenedam śarīram cetanavat pratiṣṭhāpitam). A similar conception is found in the Kauṣitakī and other Upaniṣads.¹
