The late Dr. K. S. Macdonald of the United Free Church Mission, Calcutta, set about gathering material on the Hindu Tantras a few years before his death, and persuaded a number of his friends to analyse or translate one or more Tantras each, in order to help him in the study. The MS. material which he left, most obligingly placed at my service by Mrs. Macdonald, has helped me considerably with the later history of the Śākta sect in Bengal. These MSS. may be found on p. 389. of the Bibliography, each described as belonging to the Macdonald MSS.
