Just as in the case of the other Pramāṇas, so here also, if we regard the term ‘Shāstra’ as an Accusative Abstract Noun—*Shiṣyatē yat tat*—equivalent to ‘*Shiṣṭi*’,—then it is synonymous with Verbal (or Scriptural) Cognition; but if it is taken as an Instrumental Abstract Noun—*Shiṣyaē anēna*—then it is synonymous with the Word providing Verbal Cognition.
