⁷ The alleged relics of the Buddha in the Piprāhvā Stūpa and in a casket of Kaniṣka (see ref. in Franke, DN. p. 254, n. 2 ; JRAS. 1909, pp. 1056 ff.) do not help to establish either his date or reality, for the invention of relics is world-wide.
