v2.c40.s2.24

In this group it is quite clear that the Kaṭha takes the first rank: its style is suggested already by the metrical part of the Kena and by verses found in the Bṛhadāraṇyaka in a later addition.² The Īçā is clearly dependent on the Kaṭha,³ and the Çvetāçvatara is certainly⁴ well aware of the Kaṭha, and is probably a good deal later even than the Īçā, which is free from the sectarian spirit of the Çvetāçvatara in which the philosophy leads up to the glorification of Rudra as the god *par excellence*. The Muṇḍaka uses apparently the Çvetāçvatara,⁵ and it again is probably presumed by the Mahānārāyaṇa.⁶
