∗ Tradition allots specially the task of improvisation (paṭibhâna) among Buddha's disciples to Vangîsa ("Dîp.," iv, 4), who is the hero of one particular section in the holy texts, the Vangîsathera-Samyutta. There it is often said: this and that thought "dawned on Vangîsa" (paṭibhâti), and then he utters a verse in which he gives expression to the collateral circumstances, praises Buddha, and so on. He then says of these verses, they are not prepared beforehand (pubbe parivitakkitâ) but "they suddenly dawned on me" (ṭhânaso mam paṭibhanti).
