Fortunately, however, we now have a plausible account of Vasubandhu's life and date provided by Stefan Anacker. We do not suppose, of course, that given the amount of discussion generated that anyone's solution to the problems of Vasubandhu's date and authorship will be entirely convincing to all parties. However, rather than attempt to review all the arguments in the debate,⁵¹⁵ we have chosen here merely to provide in this introductory account excerpts from Anacker's attractive and well-documented description of Vasubandhu's life.⁵¹⁶
