Page 274.—Sāñjaya’s scepticism influenced considerably Buddha’s attitude to metaphysics and the Jaina view of Saptabhaṅgī. Cp. “If you ask me whether there is another world (atthi paraloko)—well, if I thought there were, I would say so. And I do not think it is thus or thus. And I do not think it is otherwise. And I do not deny it” (*Sacred Books of the Buddhists*, vol. ii, p. 75).
