v2.c25.s1.7
The Mīmāṃsā Sūtra of Jaimini presupposes a long history of Vedic interpretation, since it sums up the general rules (nyāyas) which were in use. It describes the different sacrifices and their purposes, the theory of apūrva as well as some philosophical propositions. It has twelve chapters, of which the first is of philosophical value, since it discusses the sources of knowledge and the validity of the Vedas. Jaimini tries to justify every part of the Vedas. His Saṃkarṣaṇakāṇḍa, otherwise known as Devatākāṇḍa, belongs to the Pūrva Mīmāṃsā, since it bears upon upāsana (worship), which is also enjoined in the Vedas.
