Sneed et al.(1954) and McDonald (see Butts and Coxe, 1967) have mentioned that just as *Svarṇa* (Gold) has been related to Sun or Sanskrit word *Jval* (to shine), the brilliant white metal silver has been related to Moon and earlier it was called luna. Silver nitrate is still called Lunar Caustic. The Latin name ‘Argentum’ also has its origin in Sanskrit and it comes from the Aryan origin, meaning shining white metal.
