These treatments are resorted to when the normal pacification treatment fails to correct the disturbed *doṣas*. Their main purpose is to eliminate the vitiated *doṣas* from the body, and thus cure the diseases. While they are curative in their import, they may also be employed as preventive and promotive measures, for they are also prophyllastic.
