The *Ṛgvedic* plough is taken to be a simple and light implement of wood. But the reference to its well smoothed handle and its sharp pointed share (AV. III. 17.3; Vaj.S. XII.71, *paviravat*, *susīma* and *tsaru*) suggests that there was an effort to improve it to make it something of which the owner could feel proud (Aiyer, p.14).
