The Kṛṣi-Parāśara (verse 118) mentions a tool by the name madika. It does not provide any details about its form and function. It merely says that it was 14 cubits in length, the present moi is of different forms and shapes. Here possibly we have a reference to a wooden log used for levelling the field.
