The introduction of iron is clearly noticed first with the Painted Grey ware culture (c. 1000-800 B.C.). But agricultural implements form 4.8% of the assemblage. This includes a sickle, a hoe, and a ploughshare from Jakhera (IAR, 1974-75.p.44). A developed iron technology and a wider use of iron implements characterises the NBP Ware culture (c. 600-200 B.C.). But agricultural implements are still only 10% of the total. Besides axes, Parasu and a Khurpi, we have hoes, spades and spuds10.
