In the Arthaśāstra (II. 24.12-14) we have references to grains grouped as pūrvavāpa, madhyavāpa and paścādvāpa. Even if this is interpreted to refer to sowings one after another in the same field, it will not amount to the practice of rotation. Actually we have here a preferential of crops as first, middle and last.
