Varāhamihira in his *Bṛhatsaṃhitā* devotes a full chapter (No. 53) to the subject of water-divining. It is termed as *dakārgala*, of which the more explicit form is *udakārgala*, Varāhamihira admits that he presented in Āryā verses the *Dakārgala* composed by Sārasvata and narrates in Vṛtta verses another written by Manu (verse 99). Though both these texts are not available in their original form, quotations from them are reproduced by Bhaṭṭotpala.
