In Atharvaveda and Śatapatha Brāhmaṇa, reference to fisheries has been made by narrating a legend in which a fish saved Manu from deluge. The Vedas, the Saṃhitās, Brāhmaṇas, the Āraṇyakas and Upaniṣads contain several references of fisheries.
