The period from the seventh to the twelfth centuries A.D. witnessed the enormous growth and utilization of irrigation facilities provided by the early and later Pāṇḍyas of Madurai, the Pallavas of Kāñchi, the Colas of Tanjavur, the Hoysalas of Dwārasamudra, the Cālukyas of Kalyāṇi and the Kākatīyas of Warangal. This period was also characterised by the wider utilization of irrigation works and effective water management.
