Cloth : The Cotton cloth (Buhler, p. 112-pata, kārpāsika paṭa) was also used as writing material in ancient India. Al-Bīrūnī (Sachau, pt. 2, p. 11) has also stated that he was told about the existence of a pedigree of the Shāhī royal family of Kabul in the fortress of Nagarkot and this is said to have been written on silk.
