The number of Pre-Harappan sites on the Indus and west of the river extending up to Afghanistan is large indeed; we have referred only to the more outstanding ones. It is clear from the literature that the Harappan civilization was not built by any invader in vacuum. The cultural sequences in many Pre-Harappan sites continued through several millennia before and after the Harappan era of the late third and early second millennium before Christ.
