at least three cultures (B), (C) and (E) show dates before 1000 BC for the introduction of iron in India. Each one of these had developed distinct ceramic and chalcolithic traditions and therefore there is a strong case for the hypothesis of indigenous and independent development of iron technology in more than one Indian nuclear zone. N.R. Banerjee (1965) one of the celebrated early authorities on the iron age in India did not accept hypothesis as stated above.
