Such a periodisation of the iron age in India is at best tentative and certainly open to question. Most people do not accept the Ahar date as we have discussed before. Pirak’s date comes after that of Atrañjikhera, which has been strangely ignored by Allchins. It may be useful to have separate discussions on five distinct iron age cultures (Prakash and Tripathi, 1986) A to E mentioned before in this chapter.
