Table 14.8 presents the composition of some 'white copper' objects consisting of copper and nickel. The alloy was evidently prepared by the smelting of mixed ores of copper and nickel which are known to occur naturally in the province of Yunan, China. This alloy is known as pai-tung meaning white copper in China, and as 'packtong' in Europe. The material was used in the coins of Euthydemus II, Agathocles and Pantaleon as well as in making antimony rod, bangle and plate etc. The use of this alloy proves the intimate trade relationship between the Greek dynasty in Taxila, Bactria and the Han dynasty of China during the second century BC.
