v1.c24.s2.6

Pliny distinguished between *plumbum candidum* or tin (‘white lead’) and *plumbum nigrum* or lead (‘black lead’). According to the *Periplus*, tin was shipped from Egypt to both Somaliland and India. Galena or lead sulphide was available in Spain and Britain. Some lead was imported at Barygaza to supplement indigenous supply from Rajasthan and used largely for the coinage of the Śaka dominions.
