The sulphide of antimony, stibnite (Roman stimmi) used for ointments and eye-tinctures, and found chiefly in East Arabia and in Carmania, was imported into Barygaza, Muziris and Nelcynda. Its ancient use in India is well-known. We have also literary evidences of its use in Egypt (1900 BC), and by the Lydian queen Omphale.
