v1.c28.s8.t1.11

Swarnakamal has studied the bronze brass icons from different parts of Gujarat: North (Mahudi on the bank of Sabarmati), North-East (Lilvadeva in the Panchmahal district) and Central (Akota near Baroda). His results of chemical and spectrographic analysis of the principal icons, together with the respective dates as suggested by U.P. Shah (1956 and 1959) and other art scholars, have been cited in Table 20.4. We have discussed why the dates suggested by Swarnkamal are not acceptable by us. Banerjee (1982) has also doubted whether Swarnakamal’s proposition of dates would be universally acceptable.
