The highlights of Swarnakamal's work has been the chemical, spectrographic and metallographic analyses of the Gujarat icons. The key metallographic observations made by him are summarised in Table 20. 5. In most of the samples lead globules remained as insoluble discrete phases, and where there was very little Sn or Zn, no dendrite-producing alloy phase was noticed. In many instances, slip and strain lines, flattened grains and broken dendrites provided evidences for hot or cold working by techniques such as light or heavy hammering. There were cases of cold working preceded or followed by annealing.
